Location and Classification
Gottesfuß is a classified vineyard site in Wiltingen in the wine-growing region Mosel-Saar-Ruwer in Germany. The VDP classifies the site as VDP.GROSSE LAGE® with a classified area of 3.73 hectares. The classified grape variety is Riesling.
Topography and Soil
The Gottesfuß is oriented south-southwest. The vineyards are located at 146 to 181 metres above sea level and show a slope of approximately 75 percent. The soil is described as very stony and consisting of fractured grey and red slate.
Wine Profile
Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt describes the Rieslings from Gottesfuß as firm, wild and deep-rooted, with delicate fruit, pronounced minerality and subtle herb notes. A documented Riesling Kabinett feinherb from the site is described as silky, with ripe yellow fruit notes and a long finish.
Cultivation and Cellar Work
Van Volxem documents for its Gottesfuß Alte Reben Riesling GG from 2019 a close-to-nature approach to cultivation, yield reduction and a late, selective hand harvest. The vines there are approximately 130 years old and own-rooted. In the cellar, there was spontaneous fermentation, an extended ripening period, craft-based work and production without fining agents.
