Location and classification
Goldene Luft is a registered single vineyard site in the area of Nierstein in Rheinhessen. It belongs to the collective vineyard site of Rehbach and is located in the cadastral district and municipality of Nierstein. The vineyard area covers 1 hectare.
Topography and soils
The vineyards lie at an altitude of around 90 to 160 metres and face east to south-east. The documented soil comprises Rotliegend and Rigosol with calcareous loam and fine sand deposits from the desert landscape of the Oberrotliegend. It is shallow to medium-depth, calcareous, stony and has a clayey loam texture. The water storage capacity available to plants is low, heat absorption is good and rooting conditions are medium.
Grape variety and cultivation
Riesling is the most important grape variety associated with the Goldene Luft holdings. Weingut Eimermann describes the site as a monopoly held in its own possession. For the vineyards, an environmentally oriented approach to cultivation, careful harvesting and gentle winemaking preparation are documented.
Style and name history
The wine style is described as having herbal, finely spiced and almost floral notes, mineral components and fruit aromas of peach, apricot and honeydew melon. A lively acidity, development with bottle ripeness and longevity are also part of the documented profile. The name Goldene Luft refers to a promising viewpoint where many people used to go for walks.
