Location
Goldberg is a single-vineyard site in Monzernheim in the Wonnegau, a sub-region of Rheinhessen. It lies within the large vineyard area of Pilgerpfad on an elevated slope facing to the north-east. The relatively high elevation for Rheinhessen and the aspect are associated with the preservation of freshness and acidity in the wines.
Soils
Documented are marl-pararendzina from calcareous loams and sands, which originated from tertiary marine deposits. Another soil type is calcareous marl, or Terra fusca: a stony clay soil from tertiary marine deposits of a calcareous algal reef, which has weathered into brown clay.
Wine style
The marl-pararendzina is associated with full-bodied, expressive wines and balanced acidity. White wines are characterised by juicy fruit as well as notes of mango, honeydew melon and apricot; red wines are described as having dark fruit and smoky spice. The calcareous marl and Terra-fusca soils stand for fruit-driven, full-bodied wines with opulence, smoky notes, mild acidity, tension and complexity, with ripeness playing an important role.

The Landwirtschaftskammer Rheinland-Pfalz lists Goldberg as a single-vineyard site with the vineyard number 730612 in the municipality and cadastral district of Monzernheim. For the vineyard register as of the 2024 harvest, a planted area of 63.5 hectares is given.
