Location and classification
Goldberg is an officially documented single vineyard in the cadastral district of Jugenheim. It belongs to the Bingen area and to the Kaiserpfalz gross vineyard in Rheinhessen.
Aspect and soils
The vineyard site is on a warm slope facing south. The vines grow in a wind-protected hollow. Favorable conditions for viticulture are provided by the south-facing aspect and the shelter from wind.
Documented soils are loess loam and calcareous marl. The marl-pelosols consist of deep, calcareous clay from tertiary marine deposits. Limestone rendzinas are shallow to medium-deep, very calcareous and stony-sandy; they are linked to tertiary deposits of limestone and algal reef. The marl-pelosols show limited water permeability and aeration, whereas the limestone rendzinas are well aerated, easy to warm up and limited in rooting depth.

From the Jugenheim Goldberg, wines made from Riesling, Portugieser and Saint Laurent are documented. Descriptions link the site to dense, full-bodied wines as well as to red wines from the warm, loess-influenced location. Riesling from this site is also documented.
