Location and Classification
Goldberg is a vineyard site in Freinsheim and Weisenheim am Sand in the Palatinate. In Weisenheim am Sand, the site lies north of the settlement.

Name Designation
Local tradition for field names with the designation Goldberg points to both a yellowish soil colour and mica, which is referred to as cat’s gold, as possible references. An unambiguous origin for the name of the site is not thereby established.
Documented Wine
A 2012 wine under the designation Weisenheimer Goldberg was produced from 50 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 30 % Cabernet Cubin and 20 % Portugieser. The selected grapes were hand-harvested. The must fermented for two to five weeks and then aged for 18 months in German and French barriques. The wine was bottled unfiltered and is a dry red wine with 0,1 g/l residual sugar and 13,98 % vol. alcohol.
