Location and classification
The Godelsberg vineyard is located in Aschaffenburg, between Aschaffenburg and Haibach, below the Kippenburg and at the western foot of the Spessart. It is assigned to the wine-growing region Franken and the Mainviereck area.
Terraces and site
The vines grow on south-facing terraces that were created with dry-stone walls. The documented subsoil consists of gneiss with inclusions of quartz and mica schist. The site climate is characterised by pronounced temperature fluctuations.
History and cultivation
The Godelsberg is considered a historic wine-growing site. Its terraces were laid out for wine growing centuries ago. Adam Kipp, who built the Kippenburg in 1839, owned and cultivated several vineyards on the Godelsberg. The Kippenburg initially served as a vineyard house and viewing tower. In addition, environmentally friendly cultivation has been documented for the vineyard.
Grape varieties and wines
The documented range includes still wines made from Bacchus, Müller-Thurgau and Pinotin, as well as the sparkling wine Godelsberg Secco. A Godelsberg Bacchus was designated as Kabinett and a Godelsberg Müller-Thurgau as quality wine b.A.
