Location and classification
Gertrudenberg is a legally registered single vineyard (Einzellage) in the Dattenberg district of the municipality of Dattenberg on the Middle Rhine. The vineyard site lies on the right bank of the Rhine, south of Linz, at around Rhine kilometre 629. It is assigned to the Loreley area and the Großlage (collective vineyard) of Burg Hammerstein; its official vineyard site number is 320102.
Area and site
In the 2024 vineyard register, Gertrudenberg is listed with 2.7 hectares of planted vineyard area. The steep site is oriented to the south-west. The soils are described as greywacke with loamy clay as well as weathered slate from the Siegen strata.
Vines and cultivation
The holdings include Riesling vines and Dornfelder vines that are over 50 years old. As part of the 2023 expansion, Spätburgunder, Auxerrois and Souvignier Gris were also planted. Previously overgrown or fallow areas were cleared and replanted; the newly established vineyard is designed for direct access with the tractor.
Wines and name
The producer describes the wines from Gertrudenberg as medium in strength and fruit-forward. A regional wine guide for 2026 lists a dry Riesling with the designation “Dattenberger Gertrudenberg”. The name of the vineyard site is traced back to the former Gertrudenhof, a monastery estate connected to the Belgian abbey of Nivelles.
