Location and classification
Gaisböhl is an officially registered single vineyard in the district of Ruppertsberg in the Pfalz. The vineyard register lists it under the grand cru Hofstück and the register code 820516. In the VDP classification, Gaisböhl is classified as VDP.GROSSE LAGE, with Riesling as the classified and predominant grape variety.
Topography and soils
The site, which is oriented to the north and south, lies at 120 to 130 metres above sea level and has a slope of around five percent. The soils consist of terrace gravel, bands of clay and weathered Buntsandstein; the soil designation given is sandy loam.
Climate and area
Gaisböhl is oriented to the south and benefits from warm, descending winds from the Mittelhaardt. The average summer temperature is given as 20 °C. The classified area comprises 7.49 hectares; Gaisböhl Monopol is listed as 7.55 hectares, with planting dating from 1977.
History and viticulture
The first documented mention dates back to the 14th century and uses the name “Geizebuhel”, which refers to an earlier goat pasture on a hillside. In the Royal Bavarian vineyard classification of 1828, Gaisböhl was considered the best site in Ruppertsberg. Dr. Bürklin-Wolf documents Gaisböhl G.C. as a dry Riesling; for the 2024 vintage, selective hand-harvesting of healthy, fully ripe grapes and gentle pressing are specified. The vineyards of the winery are farmed biodynamically; the conversion took place in 2005.
