Location and classification
Frohnwingert is an officially designated single vineyard site in Oberhausen in the wine-growing region of Südliche Weinstraße in the Palatinate in Germany. The site is assigned to the larger site Kloster Liebfrauenberg. The official wine-growing sites register 2024 lists 131.3 hectares of planted vineyard area for Frohnwingert in Oberhausen.
Soils and plots
The vineyards in Oberhausen grow on loess-clay soils. The single vineyard site includes plots in the areas Im Höhenwingert and Auf dem Hohen Forst. The plot Auf dem Hohen Forst is connected with a 100-Morgen woodland laid out in 1759 between Oberhausen and Barbelroth, belonging to the Duke of Pfalz-Zweibrücken.
Grape varieties and wine styles
From the Oberhausen Frohnwingert, Riesling as a semi-dry quality wine and St. Laurent as a dry wine have been documented.
Winemaking
For a documented St. Laurent wine from the Oberhausen Frohnwingert, mash fermentation, ageing in a concrete container and a screw cap are given.
