Froher Weingarten

Location and classification

The Frohe Weingarten is a registered single vineyard site in Niederheimbach in the Mittelrhein wine-growing region. It belongs to the Loreley area and the large vineyard site Schloß Reichenstein. The vineyard site is located in the cadastral area and municipality of Niederheimbach and carries the wine-growing site number 320901.

Area and landscape

The 2024 vineyard register records a planted area of 9.8 hectares for the Frohe Weingarten. A Riesling planting facing south is documented in the site; it lies opposite the Heimburg; behind it the Rhine can be seen.

Soil and vines

The Frohe Weingarten is assigned to the Niederheimbach vineyard sites, which are characterised predominantly by slate loam. Riesling is evidenced by plantings and site-labelled wines. The Riesling vines described in 2023 were nearly 50 years old. Portugieser grapes were harvested from the site in 2021.

Documented wine styles

For 2022, a dry white Riesling quality wine (QbA) with a site designation is recorded. A vintage from 1983 is catalogued as Riesling Eiswein quality wine with distinction (Q.m.P.).
