Location and landscape
Franzensberger is an officially registered single vineyard in the wine-growing region Baden. The official designation assigns it to Fessenbach and Ortenberg; Fessenbach is a district of Offenburg.
Climate and soil
The vineyards are located in a landscape of gentle hills. For Offenburg, mild conditions in spring are described, while warm summer evenings prevail at the site. The soil is loamy.
Cultivation and wine
The vines of the Burda vineyard associated with Franzensberger were cultivated by Simon Renner together with his parents and two brothers. The grapes are processed into Burda wine marketed as Franzensberger.
History and development
In 1968, Franz Burda bought the Schlössle, a house dating from the late 18th century in the midst of the vineyards. Later, the Franzenstube also belonged to the estate. Ripe grapes were collected in large vats; the wine also matured there.
