Location and orientation
Frankenberg is designated as the Marbacher Frankenberg wine site in the Marbach district of Lauda-Königshofen in Baden. The vineyards extend from the Marbacher Grund in a long, curved formation towards the Taubertal. Part of the site lies on a steep slope with a southerly to south-westerly aspect.
Climate and geology
The south to south-westerly exposure ensures high levels of sunshine during the vegetation period. Cool night air flows from the eastern ridges through the side valley to the Tauber and supports, during ripening in late summer, the development of aromas and the retention of acidity. The site is assigned to the middle Taubertal, where middle and lower Muschelkalk form the defining geological formations.
Varieties and wine
The original Frankenberg site was extended by a new planting in the cadastral area of Edelberg. For wines with the designation Marbacher Frankenberg, Grauer Burgunder is documented. A corresponding wine is a dry white quality wine from Muschelkalk layers, developed in a fresh, mineral style.
