Geographical classification
The Fischerpfad is a single vineyard in Alsheim in Rheinhessen. It belongs to the sub-region of Nierstein and to the communal vineyard Rheinblick. The site is located about five kilometres from the Rhine and directly borders the Hangen-Wahlheim district.
Site and soil
The Fischerpfad lies at around 85 to 160 metres above sea level and is oriented to the east. It is described as a terraced vineyard site. The soil is classified as loess-pararendzina: a deep, calcareous, clayey-silty loess soil with high water retention capacity and good root penetration.
Vines and wine style
Among others, Riesling, Grauburgunder and Weißburgunder are documented for the Fischerpfad; additionally, other grape varieties are grown. The regional site profile connects the wines with aromas of yellow fruits, apple, peach, pear and citrus fruits, as well as with a fresh character, gentle acidity and medium body. The Fischerpfad Rieslings from the Rappenhof are described as delicately fruity with a harmonious acidity.
History and classification
The winegrowing site was documented in 1720 under its historical name im Fischerpfadt. In the Alsheim district, 31.2 hectares are officially planted with vines. The winegrowing sites directory for Rhineland-Palatinate lists the Fischerpfad as a single vineyard with the site number 720801. The Rappenhof’s holdings in the Alsheim Fischerpfad are classified within the estate’s classification system as a VDP site; this is distinct from its entry in the official statutory winegrowing sites directory. The oldest Riesling vines of the Rappenhof in the Fischerpfad are listed there as being almost 70 years old.
