Location and classification
Feuerlay is an officially recorded single vineyard in the Bopparder Hamm in Boppard, Rhineland-Palatinate. It belongs to the growing region Mittelrhein and to the collective vineyard Gedeonseck. Within the Bopparder Hamm, it is located centrally. In the official vineyard register, it is listed under the single-vineyard code 320303. The site was first mentioned in 1605.
Aspect and climate
Feuerlay faces south and lies at 70 to 150 metres above sea level. The slope gradient is 35 to 65 percent. The Bopparder Hamm has the thermal influence of the Rhine water surface as well as protection against western and eastern exposure, creating a locally favourable viticultural climate.
Soil and vineyard area
The soil is recorded as Devonian slate weathering soil with a covering of loess loam. For the Bopparder Hamm, deep, slate-containing weathering material is also described. The planted vineyard area of Feuerlay comprises 15.7 hectares in the Boppard cadastral district.
Grape variety and wine style
In the site profile of the VDP, Riesling is given as the assessed grape variety for Feuerlay. A documented Heritage Wine from the Upper Middle Rhine from the 2023 vintage was a dry Riesling from this site.
