Location and Classification
Feuerberg is an officially registered single vineyard in Ernst, a wine-growing municipality and a wine locality in the area of Burg Cochem on the Mosel. The site is directly above the village and lies between Cochemer Klostergarten and Ernster Kirchlay. It belongs to the Großlage Goldbäumchen.
Area and Topography
In the official vineyard register, Feuerberg is listed under plot number 440111. The 2024 vintage shows 17.3 hectares of planted vineyard area. The terrain is described as level to gently sloping, or as a mild Mosel hillside.
Soils and Grape Varieties
Documented are weakly stony greywacke-weathering material as well as loam with slate. The gentle hillside location is suitable for cultivating both white and red grape varieties. The documented plantings include Riesling, Kerner and Dornfelder; a documented plot is planted with the PIWI varieties Laurot and Satin Noir.
Wine Styles and Farming
From Feuerberg, Rieslings in the taste profiles dry and off-dry were used. In the regional tasting directory, an Ernster Feuerberg Riesling Hochgewächs off-dry is listed. In a documented organically farmed plot, a flowering cover crop is used which, according to the business description, balances the growth of the vines and slows down the ripening of the grapes.
