Location and classification
The Feuerberg is a vineyard site in the district of Ediger within the municipality of Ediger-Eller in the wine-growing region of Mosel. In the official vineyard sites directory, it is listed in the area of Burg Cochem, within the Großlage Grafschaft, and in the cadastral area of Ediger-Eller–Ediger. As a single vineyard site, the Feuerberg bears the vineyard site number 440222.
Relief and soils
The vineyard site is documented as being steep and oriented to the south to south-southwest. The soils are described as red, weathered slate (Tonschiefer) with mica and quartz as well as as iron-containing red slate.
Vineyard areas and grape varieties
In the official register, a total of 7.6 hectares of planted vineyard area are recorded for 2024. Within the site, Riesling, Spätburgunder and St. Laurent are documented. The vineyard areas of a local producer were established in the 1980s with grafted vines following land consolidation.
Wine and cultivation
From the Feuerberg, Mosel quality wines made from Riesling are documented in the fine-dry or semi-dry style with a mineral character. The name „gääne Zeppet“ refers to a particularly steep sub-area and an old cadastral vineyard site; a wine documented from this is a fine-dry Riesling. The grape harvest for a documented Feuerberg Riesling is carried out by hand. In the terraced steep slopes, vine pruning, tying-in and leaf work are also carried out manually.
