Location
The Falkenberg is locally known as the Traustädter Falkenberg. The hillside vineyard lies above Traustadt in the Steigerwald in Franconia.
Soil and grape varieties
Gypsum marl (Gipskeuper) is considered the characteristic rock of the vineyard sites. For the Traustädter Falkenberg, Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus and Silvaner are documented.
Wines and history
The documented wines include dry Müller-Thurgau, dry Silvaner, as well as delicately off-dry Bacchus in the Kabinett category. Silvaner is described as dry and full of character; wines from the Traustädter Falkenberg were marketed as German Prädikatsweine.
Winegrowing was established in Traustadt in the post-war period. The local vineyard site is listed as the Traustädter Falkenberg.
