Location and Landscape
Fahrberg is the legally registered single vineyard Koberner Fahrberg in the cadastral district of Kobern, within the municipality of Kobern-Gondorf, in the wine-growing region Mosel. The site stretches directly along the Mosel riverside between the Koberner Schlossberg and the Uhlen.
Topography and Soils
The deeply located, steep and rocky vineyard has a slope of more than 60 per cent. The historical vineyard landscape inventory names an area of 6.2 hectares; in the 2024 list of vineyard sites, in the cadastral district of Kobern, 3.6 hectares of planted vineyard area are recorded. In the upper part, the soils are rich in skeletal material and slate, while the somewhat flatter lower terraces are more loamy and humus-rich.
Cultivation and Climate
Most of Fahrberg is still used for viticulture. Some of the upper terraces with shallow soils have been abandoned. The wine landscape of Kobern-Gondorf is shaped by a mild climate in conjunction with the steep vineyard slopes along the Mosel.
Variety and Wine Style
For wines from the Koberner Fahrberg, Riesling has been documented. A Fahrberg Riesling referred to as a terrace wine consists of 100 per cent Riesling and is vinified dry; it is described as fruity as well as salty-mineral, with subtle sweetness. Koberner Fahrberg is also recorded as a historical Mosel wine landscape and meets the criterion of traditional winegrowing.
