Eulengrund

Location and classification

Eulengrund is a named vineyard site in Schmachtenberg, a district of Zeil am Main, in the wine-growing region Franconia. The site belongs to the Abt Degen Weintal area and to the Großlage Kapellenberg (Zeil).

Area and soils

Eulengrund comprises 6.25 hectares and is locally classified as a steep slope. The documented soils consist of Lettenkeuper, a clay-rich Keuper formation, as well as sandstone.

Grape varieties and cultivation

The following are documented for Eulengrund: Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner, Riesling, Solaris, Domina, Dornfelder and Spätburgunder. A report from 2023 describes vines planted across the rows in the Zeiler Eulengrund; as a result, they differ from the traditionally oriented vineyard rows in the surrounding region.
