Location and classification
Eselsberg is a vineyard site in the vineyards of Flein in the wine-growing region Württemberg. The municipality of Flein lists it as a vineyard within the Grand Cru (Großlage) Kirchenweinberg in the Württembergisch Unterland area. The classified area of Fleiner Eselsberg covers 57.00 hectares.
Terrain and geology
The orientation ranges from south-west to south-south-east. The site is located at an altitude of approximately 250 metres above sea level and has slope gradients of 10 to 40 percent. Geologically, Eselsberg is characterised by Keuper with weathered reed sandstone (Schilfsandstein).
Classification and grape varieties
The VDP lists Fleiner Eselsberg as VDP.ERSTE LAGE®. This designation is a private classification by the VDP and not a category under German wine law. From the site, Riesling is documented as a quality wine from Württemberg and Blue Pinot Noir in a wine classified as VDP.ERSTE LAGE®.
Documented wine styles
A documented Riesling shows a fresh character, with a light aroma of peach and pineapple, as well as crisp acidity. The dry Blue Pinot Noir is described with berry and spicy notes.
