Location and classification
Edelberg is a single-vineyard site in Meddersheim in the Nahe wine-growing region of Germany. The vineyard lies within the Großlage Paradiesgarten and is located in the vineyard landscape above the Nahe valley.
History and soils
Edelberg is documented as one of the centuries-old vineyard sites of Meddersheim. For this area, predominantly clay-rich Rigosol-Regosol soils are described, which were formed through deep cultivation from red, low-lime Lockersediments of the Upper Rotliegend.
Climate
The wine-growing region around Meddersheim lies in the dry Nahe climatic zone between Martinstein and Bad Kreuznach. Milder winters, warm to hot summers and a growing season of around 275 days shape the conditions. A climate assessment gives approximately 563 millimetres of annual precipitation; the warmth is associated with Atlantic influence and the Hunsrück’s rain shadow.
Parcel structure
A land parcel survey recorded 102 parcels within the vineyard site. Of these, 31 were used for viticulture, six were left fallow, and 65 were used for other purposes.
