Location and Classification
The Heppenheimer Eckweg is a single vineyard site in Heppenheim (Bergstraße) on the Hessian Bergstraße and lies close to the state border with Baden-Württemberg. In the vineyard sites directory, the single vineyard site belongs to the larger site Heppenheimer Schlossberg. The vineyard area covers approximately 116 hectares.
Topography and Soils
The vineyard site is oriented to the southwest. Paths through the area are partly steep; the upper end is connected to a hill spur named Eck. Deep, fertile loess and loess loam soils have good water-retention capacity and a high proportion of fine earth.
Climate and History
The southwesterly orientation brings warm sunshine exposure in early spring and in late autumn. The Hessian Bergstraße is protected from cold north and east winds by the Odenwald and has a long growing season. The Eckweg has been documented in official records as early as the year 1200. The former single vineyard site Guldenzoll, with around 20 hectares, was integrated into the Heppenheimer Eckweg after 2005.
Grape Varieties and Wine Styles
At the Heppenheimer Eckweg, Riesling is documented, including Riesling Kabinett, as well as red Riesling. Red Riesling is produced here dry and off-dry; semi-dry Riesling is also documented. From Souvignier Gris, an ice wine was produced in the 2025 vintage. The grapes for this were harvested on 22 November 2025 under frost conditions.
