Burggraf is recorded as a vineyard name under Rauenberg in the wine-growing region Baden and is located in the Kraichgau region. The designation “Rauenberger Burggraf” is used in Rauenberg as a vineyard site name.
Climate and soils
Rauenberg is described as sunny and warm and is one of the warmest regions in Germany. For the Burggraf vineyard site, loess-clay and Keuper soils are given.
Cultivation and grape varieties
During cultivation, individual canopy management, grape selection and hand-harvesting are used. In some plots, vines that are up to 50 years old are planted. For the Rauenberger Burggraf, Riesling, Auxerrois, White Burgundy, Grey Burgundy, Gewürztraminer and Spätburgunder are documented.
Documented wines
For Burggraf, dry Grey Burgundy Kabinett, dry Spätburgunder Rosé and dry White Burgundy are documented, matured in French barriques. A wine from the Rauenberger Burggraf was marketed as a German Prädikatswein b.A. with the Prädikat Kabinett.
