Location and classification
Burgberg is a legally registered single vineyard in the municipal and cadastral district of Lösnich in the wine-growing region Mosel. It belongs to the Bernkastel area and the Großlage Schwarzlay. The vineyard lies on the village side behind Lösnich on a sliding slope of a river terrace and not on a steep slope.
Soils and vineyard area
The soils of Burgberg consist of deep alluvial soil. The legally recorded vineyard land comprises 20.7 hectares. In the official directory of wine-growing sites, the single vineyard is listed under wine-growing site number 410926.
Grape varieties and history
Müller-Thurgau is named as the preferred grape variety; Riesling and various red grape varieties are also grown. For the precise location, a Riesling with the designation “Lösnicher Burgberg Hochgewächs Riesling” is documented. In the vicinity, archaeological excavations at a Roman villa uncovered a depiction of the Gallo-Roman protective deity Sucellus.
