Location and classification
Brüderberg is a registered single vineyard in Langsur within the Großlage Königsberg in the Mosel winegrowing region Mosel. The vineyard area in the cadastral district of Langsur covers 21.6 hectares. The single vineyard is listed under wine location number 420205.
Relief and soil
A contiguous sub-area of Brüderberg, measuring 2.5 hectares, is documented as Im Galgenberg. It lies shortly before the border with Luxembourg, is steep and partly terraced. For the slopes, inclines of about 50 to 70 degrees are given, and for the lower and upper sections about 50 percent and 70 to 75 percent, respectively. The soil consists of shell limestone. Geologically, the section is assigned to the outlying areas of the Paris Basin in the area of the Igel fault.
Vines and vinification
The Brüderberg holdings of Rinke were taken over in 2006, after the site had previously been planted with Elbling. It was then replanted predominantly with Chardonnay and supplementary Burgundy varieties; Pinot Noir is also grown there. The documented mixed planting comprises around 85 to 90 percent Chardonnay, as well as, among others, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Muscat and Gewürztraminer. The varieties are planted mixed, harvested together and vinified together. The documented wines include dry white wines from Chardonnay mixed plantings and a Pinot Noir. For cultivation, organic farming, hand harvesting and spontaneous fermentation are documented. The shell limestone mixed planting matures for at least ten months on the lees in large wooden casks; the wines S and S Réserve are aged for at least 15 months on the lees in used tonneaux or barriques. The S Réserve comes from the terraced upper area. In the Orange Contrapunct, a three-week open vat fermentation with subsequent maturation of at least nine months in used barriques is documented.
