Location
Bornpfad is a single-vineyard site in Guntersblum in the Nierstein sub-region of Rheinhessen. It lies on Kellerweg and extends behind the town uphill towards the direction of the ridge-top sites. The site belongs to the landscape of the Rhine terrace.
Soil
The soil consists of loess over pararendzina. The calcareous dust deposited by the wind during the Ice Ages forms a deep, loamy, clayey-silty and calcareous soil with a high capacity for water storage available to plants. It is well rootable, sufficiently aerated and rich in nutrients.
Wine style
The deep loess soils provide the basis for numerous grape varieties. The site is associated with yellow-fruit aromas such as apple, peach, pear and citrus. The style is described as comparatively lean and refreshing, with gentle acidity and a medium-strong structure.
Name and classification
The name Bornpfad refers to a path to a spring; “Born” goes back to the Middle High German term “burn(e)” for a well or a water source. On Kellerweg, there were previously numerous wine cellars where winegrowers pressed their grapes. Bornpfad is the single-vineyard site within the Großlage Vögelsgärten in the Nierstein sub-region, with Guntersblum as the municipal designation.
