Bopser

Location and Name

The vineyard site Gerlinger Bopser is located in Gerlingen in Baden-Württemberg. The vineyards are on a steep slope above the town and overlook the valley. Gerlinger Bopser is the local site name of the town of Gerlingen.

Structure and Geology

The vineyard area, which covers around seven to eight hectares, is divided into Lettlenberg, Rote Halde and Tal. In the Rote Halde, layers of red marl and sandstone are exposed.

Grape Varieties and Wines

The documented red grape varieties include Trollinger, Lemberger, Schwarzriesling, Dornfelder, Zweigelt, Samtrot and Spätburgunder. In addition, Kerner, Weißburgunder, Riesling, Silvaner and Grauburgunder are also grown. The wines include red and white variants; some are matured in Barrique barrels by professional producers.

Historical Development

For the year 1731, around 140 hectares of vineyards are recorded in the municipal history of Gerlingen. The current vineyard area is around seven to eight hectares.
