Location and classification
Blume, also documented as Recher Blume, is a vineyard site in Rech in the Ahr. It is registered as a single vineyard within the protected German winegrowing region of Ahr.
Structure and topography
The site comprises valley floors to the east of the Ahr towards Saffenburg, valley floors to the west of the Ahr towards Dernau, as well as a newly parceled hillside and steep-slope area below the Rotweinwanderweg and the Recher Herrenberg. It lies at an altitude of approximately 135 to 170 metres above sea level; around 20 percent are steep, 10 percent are sloped and 70 percent are flat. Overall, exposures range from south-west to east, while the hillside and steep-slope area is oriented to the east.
Soils and cultivation
The soils consist mostly of terrace gravel and terrace loam, ranging from weakly to strongly gravelly loamy sand to sandy loam. The valley areas are described as alluvial areas deposited by the Ahr, with gravel and loam, and are suitable for comparatively straightforward mechanical soil cultivation. For these sections, an increased risk of late soil frost is documented.
Vineyard area and wine style
The designated vineyard area covers 24 hectares, of which around 13 hectares are planted with vines. Documented are 9 hectares of Spätburgunder, and 1 hectare each of Regent, Portugieser and Weißburgunder. The site is associated with full-bodied, robust red wines, as well as delicately fruity white wines.
