Location and classification
Blücherpfad is a registered single vineyard in the cadastre area Ober-Flörsheim. The site belongs to the Wonnegau and to the large-scale area Burg Rodenstein in Rheinhessen. Within the large-scale area Burg Rodenstein, Blücherpfad is designated as a single vineyard of Ober-Flörsheim.
Soils
The site comprises limestone rendzinas from tertiary marine deposits of a calcareous reef of algae. They are shallow to medium-depth, very calcareous, highly stony and sandy loamy. Their water storage available to plants is low; aeration is good and rooting depth is limited.
Grape varieties and wine style
Cabernet Sauvignon is grown at Blücherpfad. The regional profile links the site to robust red wines; in addition, a dry Cabernet Sauvignon from the Ober-Flörsheim Blücherpfad is produced. The vineyard soils are strongly interspersed with pieces of limestone. With the vines, it can take four to five years before they reach their full yield.
History of the name
The name commemorates Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher and a battle at Ober-Flörsheim on 30 March 1793. The single vineyard was named in his honour.
