Location and Classification
Bleidenberg is a registered single vineyard (Einzellage) in the municipality and cadastral district of Alken in the wine-growing region of Mosel. The site belongs to the area of Burg Cochem and to the Großlage Weinhex.
Area and Site
For 2024, the wine-growing cadastre of Rhineland-Palatinate records a planted vineyard area of 3.0 hectares. Bleidenberg is located in the mild, sunny terraced Mosel and is described as a steep vineyard site with steep terraces. Schist soil is documented for the vines.
Grape Varieties and Wines
For the Alken wine sites, including Bleidenberg, Riesling, Blauer Spätburgunder, Kerner and Dornfelder are documented. The wine styles proven from Bleidenberg include dry Riesling Kabinett, dry Riesling Spätlese and delicately sweet Riesling Spätlese. In addition, a brut-style, bottle-fermented Riesling Winzersekt from Alken Bleidenberg is documented.
Cultivation and Maturation
A documented Bleidenberg Riesling Spätlese was hand-harvested from the steep schist terraces. For this wine, several preliminary passes to sort the grapes, gentle processing and maturation in the cellar are stated. For wines from the vineyard holdings, gentle pressing with clarification of the must solids as well as a chilled fermentation on the lees are also described. The Riesling Winzersekt was produced by bottle fermentation and manual riddling.
