Area and terrain
In the 2024 register of wine-growing sites, the site is listed as 5.4 hectares. Berg is classified as a single-vineyard within the Großlage Klosterberg in the Walporzheim/Ahrtal area. The south- to south-east-facing slope lies at around 100 to 140 metres above sea level.
Soils and grape varieties
Greywacke, greywacke slate, loess and loess clay are documented as parent rocks and soils. Above all, Spätburgunder is planted; in addition, Portugieser is grown. A local description names around four hectares of Spätburgunder and one hectare of Portugieser.
Name and wine style
The place name Heppinger Berg has been documented since before 1900 and separates the site from the neighbouring Burggarten, which is historically associated with the Lords of Landskron. The wines described there show a fruit-forward character on greywacke, whereas loess and loess-clay soils produce fuller and more powerful wines.
