Location and climate
Aulerde is a vineyard site in Westhofen in the wine-growing region Rheinhessen. It is considered the warmest site in Westhofen and is associated with an early ripening of the grapes. To the west, the slopes of the Kirchspiel protect the site.
Aspect and soils
The south-facing site rises from the Upper Rhine plain and lies at an altitude of about 90 to 100 metres. Its slope gradient is roughly 10 to 15 percent. The classified site is shaped by clay marl, supplemented by smaller proportions of loess loam and limestone. In the subsoil, yellow clayey sandstone and gravelly sand can be found.
Variety and cultivation
Riesling is the classified and predominant grape variety of Aulerde. The Riesling vines of Wittmann in the core of the site are nearly 70 years old and are planted at high density.

Aulerde was first mentioned in writing in 1380 and is classified as a VDP.GROSSE LAGE® for Riesling. The dry Riesling Aulerde GG by Wittmann is marked as a VDP.GROSSE LAGE® wine.
