Location
Augustinerberg is a small vineyard site within the urban area of Breisach am Rhein. The historic site covers part of the north-western foothills of the hill on which the Breisach Minster stands.
Viticulture and History
The area is documented as a vineyard growing site. After the destruction of the monastery in 1793, the former monastery grounds were used for viticulture.
For more than 500 years, a monastery stood on the Augustinerberg, which was almost completely destroyed in 1793 by shelling and fire. Parts of the former grounds were subsequently built over. Surviving and/or documented traces include, among other things, a vaulted cellar, an entrance gate and foundations.
