Location and classification
Altenberg is a designated vineyard site in Flein, immediately south of Heilbronn, in the wine-growing region Württemberg. The site is classified as a single-vineyard (Einzellage) and belongs to the Großlage Kirchenweinberg in the area of Württembergisch Unterland.
Slope location and subsoil
The vineyard plots lie on south-exposed slopes in the Gewann Altenberg. The subsoil is associated with Gipskeuper, which locally is described as calcareous claystone and marl. The south-exposed slope position is considered favourable for local viticulture.
Documented wine
A Spätlese made from Riesling is documented for the Fleiner Altenberg. Such a Fleiner Altenberg Spätlese was served at the banquet on the occasion of the Germany visit by Queen Elizabeth II in 1965.
