Location and orientation
Abelsberg is a vineyard site in Stuttgart, which is connected to the districts of Gablenberg and Gaisburg. Documented plots are located below the residential area of Plettenberg, in the direction of Wangen. The site, oriented from west to south-east, includes individual, separated plots with moderate to steep slopes.
Vineyard area and grape varieties
For Abelsberg, 3.1 hectares of vineyard area are recorded. Trollinger accounts for approximately two thirds of this area. In addition, Riesling, Trollinger Weißherbst and dry Riesling are documented; Riesling was replanted in Gaisburg in 1995.
Wines and history
The plot, oriented to the south-east and described by Weingut Warth, is associated with fruity Riesling and high must weights. The Gaisburg Abelsberg Riesling is documented as a Qualitätswein b.A. in the one-litre bottle and has a slight residual sweetness. Further documented wines from Abelsberg include dry Riesling, Trollinger and Trollinger Weißherbst. The plot name Abelsberg is also recorded on a historic cadastral map of Gaisburg and Wangen from 1824.
