Location and Landscape
Wutöschingen is located in a river valley on the south-eastern edge of the Black Forest. The Wutach runs through the entire municipality. The broad lower river valley forms the main axis from south-west to north-east; on both sides, high plateaus and hill ranges rise, the edges of which partly fall steeply down into the valley.
Area and Elevation
The municipality covers 26.47 km². Of this, about 15.2 km² are used for agricultural land and 7.5 km² for forest. The municipal area extends from approximately 365 metres above sea level to about 583 metres; the village centre is at around 384.9 metres.
Geology and Land Use
In the west, main shell limestone predominates. The eastern ridge contains gypsum Keuper as well as strata from the Lias and Dogger. Clay and marl soils on the slopes of the valley are used mainly for fruit growing.
Historical Development
On 1 January 1975, Wutöschingen was merged with Horheim and Schwerzen to form the present-day municipality. After that, Degernau and Ofteringen were incorporated. In 1806, Wutöschingen became part of Baden.
