Winden lies in the Rhine plain in front of the Haardt hills. The Haardt follows directly to the west. Bad Bergzabern and Landau in the Palatinate are each around 10 kilometres away, with Bad Bergzabern to the east and Landau to the south.

Viticulture

Winden is a wine-growing municipality in the Pfalz and includes part of the single vineyard Narrenberg. The 2024 vineyard register lists 6.3 hectares of planted vineyard area for the Winden cadastral district. The single vineyard running through Winden and Hergersweiler is registered in the Palatinate under number 810313 and assigned to the area of the Southern Wine Route as well as to the grand cru Kloster Liebfrauenberg.

History and development

Winden was first mentioned in documents in 1253. Archaeological finds indicate settlement in the pre-Roman and Roman periods. Up until the 1960s, the municipality was predominantly shaped by agriculture. After that, industrial development along the Rhine corridor and the expansion of regional transport led to a structural change.
