Location and landscape
Werbach is located in the northern Main-Tauber district and belongs to the region Baden. The municipality comprises six local districts over an area of 43.18 km². Its eastern part lies in the Tauberland along the middle reaches of the Tauber, while in the west the deeply incised and strongly winding Lower Tauber valley stretches out.
Altitude ranges from about 153 metres above sea level at the crossing of the Tauber below Eulschirben to around 379 metres at the summit of the Apfelberg south of Gamburg.
Geology and climate
The east of the municipality is characterised by Muschelkalk. At Werbach, Lower Muschelkalk occurs alongside the limestone-dominated Jena Formation; locally, there are also wave limestone deposits with bioclastic or oolithic limestone layers.
The climatic water balance in Tauberland is usually about 100 to 300 millimetres, and in the Tauber valley about 0 to 100 millimetres. In the summer half-year it is negative in large parts of the Tauberland.
Vineyard sites
The vineyard site Hirschberg is situated near the pilgrimage chapel of Liebfrauenbrunn and is connected by a route through the Welzbachtal. From Werbach, a gentle ascent leads to the site; the further route runs level through vineyards, dry grasslands and open woodland. The Beilberg is also documented as a vineyard site on Werbach municipal territory.
