Weißbach

Location and landscape

Weißbach is a municipality in the Hohenlohe district in Baden-Württemberg. It lies in the Kocher valley within the Württemberg wine-growing region. The municipal area extends from around 200 to 390 metres above sea level.

Topography and soils

The Weißbach district is situated on land that rises steeply from the Kocher valley to the north and more gently to the south. The vineyards in the Kocher valley of the northern Hohenlohe are characterised above all by mineral-rich, water-permeable Muschelkalk soils.

Viticulture and history

Weißbach is one of the wine-growing municipalities of the Hohenlohe wine region in the Kocher valley. The locality was first mentioned in documents in 1283; for the late 18th century, viticulture as part of the local economy is documented. The single vineyard Altenberg is legally recognised in the Kocher-Jagst-Tauber area of the Württemberg wine-growing region.
