Soils and climate
The alluvial soils consist of deep, sandy loam and loamy sand, locally with gravel, over sand and gravel. They offer good rooting depth, a high water-retention capacity and a medium warming ability. In the Middle Rhine valley, weather conditions change quickly and are variable; the Rhine valley forms a warmer climatic zone than the surrounding upland areas. The average annual temperature is about 9 to 11 °C, and the annual precipitation is about 500 to 600 millimetres.
History and grape variety
Trechtingshausen is first mentioned in 1122 under the name Drodingishusen and was historically connected with the Abbey of Kornelimünster and Reichenstein Castle. In the Rhine-near part of the Morgenbach valley, Chardonnay has been documented. Wine produced from this was developed as feinherb and matured in barrique.
