Location and landscape
Tamm lies in the south-western Neckar basin on the Langen Feld in Württemberg. The municipality is located between the Enz valley in the north-west and Hohenasperg in the south-east. The municipal area extends over a gently rolling plateau at an altitude of 240 to 300 metres and is characterised by a loess covering. The Saubach drains the area towards the Enz.
Wine-growing history
In the late Middle Ages, wine-growing in Tamm was an important activity. Productive vineyard areas lay in Hurst, Bäumle, Brächter and Lausgerten. Historic vineyards and agricultural properties were frequently farmed by tenant farmers as hereditary leases of territorial and ecclesiastical landlords.
Historic evidence
In 1783, the settlement of Fißlerhof was established in part in order to improve the use of the areas and vineyards in Lausgerten. A preserved historic building is documented as a typical Wengerter house; its vaulted cellar has a natural earthen floor.
