Sörgenlocher Moosberg vineyard site
The vineyard site Moosberg lies at an elevation of 140 to 210 metres and is oriented to the south. The Selz borders directly on the vineyard site. Its deep, calcareous soils consist of clay marl and marl-pelosol, formed from calcareous clayey deposits of a tertiary sea. The high proportion of clay that can swell leads to low water and air permeability, a high nutrient content and makes it difficult for the roots to penetrate.
History and wine profile
The Sörgenlocher Moosberg was first documented in 1559 under the name on the moissen Wege. The name Moosberg is derived from the Middle High German word mos for damp terrain. On the clay marl soils, various grape varieties are cultivated. Wines associated with this soil type are described as full-bodied and dense, with moderate acidity, a creamy texture, and aromas of ripe fruit and honey.
