Location and history
Nieder-Flörsheim is a district of the municipality of Flörsheim-Dalsheim in the Alzey-Worms district in Rhineland-Palatinate, and lies in Rheinhessen. The place was first mentioned in 769. In 1968, Nieder-Flörsheim was administratively merged with Dalsheim into Flörsheim-Dalsheim.
Vineyard sites
Nieder-Flörsheim belongs to the wine-growing district Burg Rodenstein in the Wonnegau. For the cadastral area, Frauenberg and Goldberg are listed as single vineyards; the Steig is a site that extends across cadastral boundaries. Frauenberg was documented in 1290 as “an frauwenhalten” and was originally owned by a convent of nuns. The Steig has been recorded since 1346 under the name “uf der steygen”, which refers to a steep ascent.
Soils and wine character
Frauenberg is oriented from the south-east to the east and lies at an altitude of around 170 to 240 metres. Its loess and limestone soils are deep, loamy, calcareous and rich in clayey silt. The site is planted primarily with Riesling and Spätburgunder. The wines assigned there are described with yellow fruit, apple, peach, pear and citrus, as well as with mild acidity and a medium body.
The Steig has a south to east orientation and elevations of about 125 to 245 metres. Its soils consist of loess pararendzina and loess black earth. Fruity wines with a medium body and rounded acidity are described.
