Nassau lies in the Rhein-Lahn district in Rhineland-Palatinate and belongs to the Nassau collective municipality. The town is situated at 100 metres above sea level and covers an area of 17.5 square kilometres. The relief is shaped primarily by the Lahn and its tributaries. Within the Nassau nature park, the Lahn valley is considered, compared with other places, to be a climatically favoured area.

Wine-growing history

Wine-growing in Nassau is evidenced by an entry dated 31 December 1159. This is also regarded as the earliest documented proof of wine-growing along the Lahn. The Schloßberg vineyard site is associated with Nassau; the site was discontinued in 1982.

Wine-growing region

The large wine-growing area of the Lahn valley, to which the vineyard sites around Nassau belong, has been part of the wine-growing region Mittelrhein since 1971.
