Location and landscape
Manubach is a municipality in a small side valley of the Middle Rhine. Vineyards are on the southern slopes, while the northern slopes are characterised by orchards.
Viticulture
Viticulture in Manubach was once extensive; preserved vineyard plots are still located on the southern slopes. In the 2024 vineyard register, the single vineyards Langgarten, Mönchwingert and St. Oswald are listed. For Mönchwingert, 2.8 hectares of planted vineyard area are given.
Historical viticulture
For the Langgarten site, slate soil and the cultivation of Riesling are documented as early as in a viticulture register from 1909. The three vineyards belong to the Middle Rhine winegrowing region, Loreley area, Grosslage Schloss Stahleck.
History
Manubach was first mentioned in a document dated 1 April 1190. Local history also reports earlier Celtic and Roman settlement traces. The place belonged to the historic Four Valleys region and was under Wittelsbach rule for almost 600 years. Since 2003, Manubach has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage site Upper Middle Rhine Valley.
