Location and Landscape
Krum is a district of Zeil am Main in the Haßberge district in Lower Franconia, Bavaria. The place lies in the hilly landscape of the Haßberge, which is connected to the eastern steep ascent of the Franconian cuesta landscape.
Viticulture in Krum’s Himmelreich
The vineyard area Himmelreich is registered as a vineyard site of Zeil am Main, district Krum, in the Abt-Degen wine valley. The Krumer Himmelreich is considered there as a single site and does not belong to a collective site. The vineyard soils in the Abt-Degen wine valley are based on Keuper, sometimes in combination with loam or sand.
Climate and History
For the landscape unit of Franconia and Swabia, which includes the Haßberge, for the period 1951 to 2018, a mean temperature of about 8.5 °C and a mean precipitation of about 712 mm were determined. Steep vineyard areas are prone to soil erosion; as protection, cover plants or straw coverings are used. Krum was incorporated into the town of Zeil am Main on 1 January 1978.
