Kleinniedesheim

Location and landscape

Kleinniedesheim is located in the northern Rhein-Pfalz district region along the Frankenthal–Worms axis in the Pfalz. The municipal area is situated on a Rhine river terrace and includes vineyards, greened and wooded strips, as well as forest along the Eckbach.

Viticulture

On the cadastral area there are about 52 hectares of vineyard land. In the official winegrowing sites directory for Rhineland-Palatinate, as at the 2024 harvest, the Schloßgarten and the site Vorderberg are associated with Kleinniedesheim.

Landratswingert

In Landratswingert, in 2016 Regent grapes were planted and harvested by hand on 19 September. Special traps were intended to help keep the grapes away from cherry vinegar flies.

History

Documented Roman grave finds date back to the 3rd or 4th century. The municipality is described as a Frankish foundation from the 6th or 7th century. Kleinniedesheim was first mentioned in 1190 as “Uzelnheim” in the feudal registers of Werner II of Bolanden.
