Karsbach is a municipality in the Main-Spessart district in Lower Franconia, Bavaria, within the Würzburg region and Franconia. The municipality comprises Karsbach, Heßdorf, Höllrich and Weyersfeld.

Landscape

In the north-east, Karsbach is bounded by a steep dry slope connected to the Hammelburg military training area. The local wayside cross route runs along the edge of the slope.

Viticulture and history

In the 18th century, viticulture and flax growing were among the most important sources of income for the residents. Today’s municipality was formed in 1978 through the merger of Weyersfeld, Höllrich, Heßdorf and Karsbach.

The vineyard site Kreuzweg is an officially registered site in the Mittelmain wine-growing region in Franconia and belongs to the Großlage Roßtal. The designation Karsbach-Kreuzweg is subject to the official register of vineyards; for its use, at least 85 per cent of the grapes must come from the named area and an official test number must be available.
