History of viticulture
Hupperath was first mentioned in a document in 1173 and, according to the local chronicle, from 1225 it belonged to the Stift St. Paulin in Trier. Registers from the years 1276 and 1380 document wine levies: each year, three Fuder of wine were to be paid to the provostry; in addition, every seventh grape from the Huppertsberg vineyard was to be delivered to their distillery house.
Around 1970, about 20 agricultural businesses depended mainly on agriculture and viticulture. At the time the chronicle was written, the vineyards were cultivated by two winegrowers from Wittlich.
