Höllrich

Location and waters

Höllrich is a parish village and a municipal district of Karsbach in the Main-Spessart district in Lower Franconia, Bavaria. The Kuhbach, which used to be called Karsbach, flows through the village. Höllrich belongs to the region Franconia.

History

Höllrich was first mentioned in a document in 1189 under the name “Holderich”. As part of the Bavarian regional reform in 1978, the place became part of the municipality of Karsbach.

Vine growing at Boxberg

The vineyard site Boxberg was entered in 2019 for Karsbach-Höllrich into the official Bavarian register of vineyard sites and is marketed commercially as “Höllricher Boxberg”. Silvaner and White Burgunder are documented there; as the subsoil for the White Burgunder grapes, shell limestone is recorded. A dry Silvaner is described as a Franconian wine with noticeable acidity and a fresh, herbal and mineral profile.
